The home design is influenced as much by its site as it is the family program and family value of “being together”. Building off of this importance, conceptually we designed the home around a very large two-story stone fireplace mass at the center of the main living wing. Upstairs in the main living wing (in the master suite) the stone mass serves as a fireplace and day bed. Out on the master deck the mass houses a spa with views down the canyon to the ocean (on a clear day). Downstairs, the stone mass serves as a fireplace to both the formal living room on one side, and the less formal living room on the other. The stone mass is perceived as the central organizing piece and heart of the home, which can be experienced from just about anywhere in the main family gathering spaces.
